The Journey to Our NEW Faux Farmhouse

I don’t think you quite realize how many memories are in a home until you list it for sale. I would wake up every morning and clean, clean, clean in preparation for new showings. But by the end of the day, when we were all nestled on the couch (7 of us on the sectional πŸ˜‚ so naturally we’re cozy), I would think-can we really leave this place? We moved in when my oldest was 6 months old and I brought each of my babies home here. We have done every project ourselves and have poured immeasurable amounts of love in here. While I was excited to move (and have more space πŸ™ŒπŸΌ) I was also terrified at the thought of leaving this nest behind.

We found our new home when it was half way finished- which meant we had room for a little creative control, but some decisions were already made for us.  I hope you enjoy my journal of the process to making our house HOME!

JANUARY 16, 2017

Scrub-a-dub-dub. Brad’s scrubbing up in the new tub. πŸ› Well, shower. πŸ˜‰ Today was a big check mark βœ”οΈ day. We picked out all of the “deco” for the new house. Have you been through the design center process? While totally exciting it’s also a little exhausting. πŸ˜… I can’t imagine how it must feel for the designer working with the overly picky/obnoxious people! (I’m pointing at me. πŸ‘ˆπŸΌπŸ™Š) .
Can’t wait to show you more of the new house as it comes along! We have SO many projects lined up. πŸ™ŒπŸΌ Starting all over sounds a little bit daunting but we’re up for the challenge and are super excited! We’ve run out of projects over here πŸ˜… and crave this type of outlet.

FEBRUARY 6, 2017

Well, here she is…the new house! They started painting the siding and insulating today. Then they’ll hang sheetrock and put the brick up by the end of the week. Eeeek! The excitement/anticipation is at an all time high as we start seeing our design choices take form. Have you built a house before? Do you ever feel 100% confident in the choices you’ve made?? We love everything we picked out…just hoping it all gels together once it’s installed. πŸ˜…

Saturday’s are for sheetrock. πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

It’s coming together! Drywall is done-now tape/mud/texture. Cabinets, paint, and trim next week! Eeeek! We’ve never built a house before so every little check mark is super exciting. We only live a few minutes away from this one so we stop by often…usually once a day. I think we’ve taken the allurement away from the kids by stopping by so often. My oldest son (age 10) said, “Mom, if you go by the house once a week instead of once a day you’ll see A LOT more changes πŸ™ŒπŸΌ.” I was like, 😳. Yes, that’s the face when you realize you just got schooled by your 10-year-old. At any rate, we can’t stop coming by the house nowwww. Our builder would miss us too much. πŸ˜† I know he secretly loves all my checking in. πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆπŸ™‹πŸ»

FEBRUARY 28, 2017

Did I tell you we chose GRAY cabinets?? Well, we did! πŸ€— And I’m kind of freaking out about them! I love them SO MUCH 😍 .

You guys, we have SO many projects lined up on this house already. We giggle at the thought that we’re already zooming in to “fix up” the brand new house. But, you know us–we HAVE to add some character here and there. πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

One of our first MAJOR projects will be covering the existing exterior brick with a stone and stucco veneer, adding a front porch, and metal awnings. Why would we do this to a brand new house?? Well, when we stumbled upon this house the exterior had already been chosen. There were no changes that we could make-but we knew it would be too plain for us. So we budgeted ahead of time and will implement the changes as soon as we close! Cannot wait to show.

MARCH 8, 2017

Railing is installed. Paint is up. Laundry room flooring is in, with bathrooms and counters up on deck. Sun is pouring in through those living room windows…..and I’m in love. It’s starting to feel less πŸ‘·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸš and more πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘. T-minus 19 days til close. {Walls-Sherwin Williams Crushed Ice}

MARCH 15, 2017

Progress Pic! πŸ“Έ Backsplash is in! No grout yet (Mapei Warm Gray coming in) but we are loving the 2×8 tiles and herringbone pattern. πŸ€€πŸ˜πŸ€— ourfauxfarmhouse2.0 is coming, y’all. Closing 3/31 πŸ™ŒπŸΌ. First project-removing builder grade granite and replacing with a custom slab we found πŸ€—. Can’t wait to show you!

MARCH 16, 2017

More progress pics! That’s a 12 foot high shower, guys. I’m 5’4″. Fit for a giant. πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ I’m not sure which I’m more excited for…the kitchen or this master bathroom?? They’ll be finishing the subway tile and trim work on those arches today. And my linen tile floors are under that paper! Eeeeek!

MARCH 24, 2017

Progress Pic! πŸ“· We are getting so close! Carpet went in and we love it! With lots of little kids running around we knew we needed something other than white or cream. We love the way it plays off the dark-stained handrails and light gray wall paint (Crushed Ice by Sherwin Williams). We are officially one week away from closing and I’m not gonna lie I’m pretty dang nervous about all the detail work getting buttoned up, but Century continues to surprise us so I’m sure they’ll pull out a miracle. πŸ˜…πŸ™πŸΌWe can’t wait til this all ours! ……and for when those carpet fuzzies aren’t EVERYwhere. πŸ˜†

APRIL 2, 2017

A real life progress pic. It ain’t perfect but we’ll get there. Pretty pics coming soon, promise. Thanks for sticking with us! πŸ‘·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘·πŸΌ
